A phrase that is used to indicate that an action/state mentioned in the topic phrase or clause is nothing but something.

Equivalent: Be nothing but ~; be simply ~

あの人の言葉は美辞麗句にほかならない。
His words are nothing but flowery words.
日本語を勉強しているのは将来日本で仕事をしたいからにほかならない。
The reason that I am studying Japanese is simply because I want to work in Japan in the future.
外国語学習はほかの国の人の考え方を学ぶことにほならない。
